The BlackBerry Tour 9630 Reviewed. Should you go and grab it like there’s no tomorrow?
There’s a new BlackBerry in town. Ladies and Gentlemen, BlackBerry enthusiasts, we’re proud to introduce to you the shiny BlackBerry Tour. What is it? It’s only the latest, greatest, 3rd generation, non-touchscreener smartphone.
Touch: Just holding this little baby, you get a firm, sleek and slim design that can easily slide into your back pocket or briefcase. It’s lightweight and nice to grip, delivering a comfortable experience for experienced and first time users. Don’t get too excited though. It doesn’t look like much changed in the overall design, but the Tour looks good, it’s defiantly sexier than the Bold edition. Its 4.4 inches tall and 2.4 inches wide. 0.6 inches thick and you’ll have to lift 4.58 ounces (bit heavier than the Curve at 3.8 ounces) which makes it feel solid.
Keyboard: If you already use the Curve, you won’t have any troubles with the Tour’s keyboard. It’s got an eye-catching design, and it’s easy to click and write anything from SMS to emails.
Display: The tour offers a 480×360 pixel screen and shows 65,536 colors, pretty similar to the Curve 8900. It’s great. Offers you a clear, brilliant view. It looks vivid indoors, and even when we took it outside – the view was extremely pleasing.
Making a Call: No problems with reception. A straight 5 bars phone. You can talk about 5 hours (although RIM promises 6.5) but considering all screen resolution and fast operating system – 5 hours is just fine for us. Vibration, by the way, is really strong – you’ll be happy and never miss a call.
Camera: Not too bad. Though we’d expect more than a slow 3.2 camera with no auto focus and almost no extra features or innovation.
GPS: The Tour features a built-in GPS and if you enjoy having a computerized voice telling you when to turn, you’ll probably enjoy this feature.
Wi-Fi: Here’s where we’re really disappointed. No Wi-Fi? Come on? You can do better than that, RIM! Web browsing also falls behind. The Tour knows to load HTML pages but they come up wrong. Guess that the guys at RIM are thinking about more apps and less browsing. You can do your Facebooking, Twittering and MySpaceing through applications and have a good time, but you will not be able to surf smoothly.
Should I run to the store and buy it?
Well, first of all you shouldn’t run, it’s dangerous and you can fall. But walk, depends on what BlackBerry model you have now. It’s a good looking phone, with one good looking screen. The camera, web browsing and call quality wasn’t as good as we expected. But the sexy package, incredible display and professional attitude make the BlackBerry Tour a winner in the market.
